Longitudinal changes in blood-based biomarkers in chronic moderate to severe traumatic brain injury: preliminary findings

چکیده

Objectives: This longitudinal study aims at 1) providing preliminary evidence of changes in blood-based biomarkers across time chronic TBI and 2) relating these to outcome measures cerebral structure activity. Methods: Eight patients with moderate-to-severe (7 males, 35 ± 7.6 years old, 5 severe TBI, 17.52 3.84 months post-injury) were evaluated monthly intervals 6 time-points using: a) Blood-based (GFAP, NSE, S100A12, SDBP145, UCH-L1, T-tau, P-tau, P-tau/T-tau ratio); b) Magnetic Resonance Imaging evaluate brain structure; c) Resting-state electroencephalograms function; d) Outcome assess cognition, emotion, functional recovery (MOCA, RBANS, BDI-II, DRS).Results: Changes P-tau levels found [p = .007]. was positively related < .001] cognitive .006] outcomes, negatively the severity depression, later [R ?0.901; p =.006]. ratio also correlated shape change subcortical areas such as brainstem [T(7) 4.71, .008] putamen 3.25, .012].Conclusions: Our provides findings that suggest a positive relationship between TBI.

Blood Biomarkers in Moderate-To-Severe Traumatic Brain Injury: Potential Utility of a Multi-Marker Approach in Characterizing Outcome

BACKGROUND Blood biomarkers are valuable tools for elucidating complex cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying traumatic brain injury (TBI). Profiling distinct classes of biomarkers could aid in the identification and characterization of initial injury and secondary pathological processes. This study characterized the prognostic performance of a recently developed multi-marker panel of cir...

Diffuse changes in cortical thickness in pediatric moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury.

Generalized whole brain volume loss has been well documented in moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), as has diffuse cerebral atrophy based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) volumetric methods where white matter may be more selectively affected than gray matter. However, specific regional differences in gray matter thickness of the cortical mantle have not been previously examined....

Outcome biomarkers following severe traumatic brain injury.

Trauma is the leading cause of death of people from 1 to 44 years of age. Traumatic brain injury is the main determinant for mortality and morbidity caused by trauma. Outcome prediction is one of the major problems related to severe traumatic brain injury because clinical evaluation has an unreliable predictive value and complicates identification of patients with higher risk of developing seco...

cerebellar atrophy after moderate-to-severe pediatric traumatic brain injury.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Although the cerebellum has not attracted the same degree of attention as cortical areas and the hippocampus in traumatic brain injury (TBI) literature, there is limited structural and functional imaging evidence that the cerebellum is also vulnerable to insult. The cerebellum is emerging as part of a frontocerebellar system that, when disrupted, results in significant co...
